ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team honored seniors
Philip Holbrook and
Vincent Paganetti prior to its final home match of the 2015 season on Friday, but the Seawolves suffered a 6-3 loss to No. 41 Holy Names at the SSU Tennis Courts in Rohnert Park. Sonoma falls to 4-12 this season while the Hawks improved to 6-10.
Holy Names took a 3-0 lead into singles play after sweeping all three doubles matches, setting the tone for the match. Sonoma State got points from
Blaine Mengert at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1),
Garret Gooch at No. 5 (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) and, in his final match on his home court, Paganetti captured the 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6, but that would be all the hosts could muster. Holbrook (6-7 (3), 3-6) and
Noah Lee (6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-12) took their opponents to tiebreakers in their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but eventually lost.
Sonoma State will play its final match of the regular season next Sunday (Apr. 12) at Holy Names in Oakland before heading to Surprise, Ariz. for the Pacific West Conference Championships on Apr. 16-18.
