LOS ANGELES -- The 14th-ranked Sonoma State men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2015 season Friday, dropping a 2-0 decision to defending NCAA Division II West Region champion Cal State L.A. at Jesse Owens Track in Los Angeles on opening night of CCAA action. The Seawolves fall to 3-1-1 this season (0-1 in conference play) while the Golden Eagles rise to 3-0-1 (1-0 CCAA).
Both of Cal State L.A.'s goals came within four minutes of each other midway through the second half, both off the foot of Troy Dumlao, at 67:03 and again at 71:45.
The Seawolves were outshot 12-3 in the match. SSU keeper
Mitch North made two saves.
Quotes from Head Coach Marcus Ziemer:"That was a tough loss. Cal State L.A. is very good at what they do and difficult to play against, especially at home."
"The unfortunate thing is that, in the second half, we had some of our best ball possession of the year."
"We try to build up and keep the ball, even in front of our goal, which involves a lot of risk. They try to get forward as quickly as possible and don't play out of the back, which means very little risk. I still think if we get the chance to play them again we can beat them."
"We need to bounce back against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday. There's a lot of season left."
Up Next:Sonoma State will take on 23rd-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 2:00 pm in Carson.
