LOS ANGELES -- Kylie Kiech came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points, but the starters for the Sonoma State women's basketball team on Friday managed just four points, accounting for a 63-50 loss to host Cal State L.A. at the Eagles Nest in Los Angeles.
The Seawolves fell to 8-13 overall and 3-9 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, improved to 5-13 and 3-9 in conference action.
Kiech drained a three-pointer with 3:37 to play in the first quarter to put the Seawolves up 6-5 early, but the Golden Eagles reeled off a 27-7 run over the next 13:48 to run away. CSULA forced 12 turnovers during that span, holding SSU to just 1 for 7 from the floor.
The Cal State L.A. lead eventually got to 22 points with under seven minutes to play in the contest, but Sonoma chipped away in the final moments, only to settle for the 13-point loss.
Kiech led all players with her 16 points, going 4 for 7 from the floor including 2 for 3 from long range. She was also 6 for 8 from the free throw line.
Jessica Mitz added eight points, all of which came in the final five minutes of the ballgame.
Three Golden Eagles scored 10 or more points, led by the 15 out of the hands of Rikke Fabricius.
Sonoma State will now make the short trip to Carson for a Saturday night showdown at Cal State Dominguez Hills, scheduled for 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
