WAIPAHU, Hawaii -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team started out their trip to Hawaii on a good note, sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead against regional opponent, Hawaii-Hilo. Unfortunately, those three points were the only ones Sonoma would win as the Vulcans swept singles on their way to a 6-3 win on Thursday afternoon at the Central Oahu Regional Park courts.
The loss leaves the Seawolves (0-5) winless in their first five matches of the season. The Vulcans are now 1-0.
The Seawolves were impressive in doubles, rolling to 8-5 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 and an 8-1 win by
Daniel Holz and
Kevin To at No. 3.
After doubles play, the Seawolves needed just two points from singles to clinch the team win. However, those wins would never come.
Several matches were close, including
Logan Liddell at No. 3, who lost 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 and
Sullivan Roche, who lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
The Seawolves continue their Hawaiian road trip on Friday when they take on Hawaii Pacific.
