Seawolves end tournament in San Marcos with a pair of wins

The Sonoma State Seawolves finished their weekend at Cal State San Marcos Cougar Classic Tournament  2-1 by defeating the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats in 3 sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 and the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks 25-21,19-25, 25-21, 25-13 after falling to Westmont College in 5 sets on Friday.
Seawolves, Kelsey McIntire, Rachel Andrews and Courtney Seda were selected to the All-Tournament team.

The Wildcats and Seawolves would trade points fairly evenly for the beginning of each set, but the Seawolves would eventually pull away around the 15th point. Sonoma almost doubled Johnson and Wales in kills and boasted a .372 hitting percentage.  The Wildcats had 30 kills and almost half that in errors (13). Andrews lead the Seawolves' attack with 14 kills, and McIntire (9) and Morgan Anala (7) chipped in as well. The trio also lead the team in blocks for the game, combining for 7 in total. Freshman Megan Bohorquez led the defense with 20 digs and lead the team again with 21 against the Skyhawks.

The Skyhawks took a little more time to defeat. In a tough first set the Seawolves had a couple three point runs that gave them an edge that would ultimately win the set. A combination of tough serving from Fort Lewis and some Sonoma errors caused the loss in the second set. But the Seawolves came out hard on the attack and lead for almost the entire third set, though the Skyhawks had a five point run at 12-19 to bring the score to 17-19 they couldn't catch up. Sonoma dominated in the fourth and final set to easily win the match.

Against Fort Lewis, Andrews with 16 and freshman Tate Batistini with 17, lead the pack in points, while Seda pulled double duty in assists and digs with 24 assists and 10 digs and had a couple service aces to complete a well played game. Seitz helped the team all around with 23 assists, 11 digs, and 3 blocks.

The Seawolves will host their tournament and play Thursday Sept 8 at 5:30pm against Cal Baptist in the Wolves' Den.
