Burroughs Nets 1,000th Career Point In Seawolves' Victory

ROHNERT PARK -- Madison Burroughs became just the fifth student-athlete in the history of the program to reach 1,000 career points, inspiring the Sonoma State women's basketball team to a 75-69 victory over Cal State San Marcos Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves improve to 9-12 this season with a 6-11 mark in the CCAA.  The Cougars fell to 7-12 and 7-8 in conference action.

Ugochi Anudokem led the way for the Seawolves statistically, matching her career-high of 23 points, adding eight rebounds and three blocks in the victory.  Kim Savio came off the bench to drop in a season-high 17 points to go along with a season-high 11 rebounds.  Burroughs, who joined an elite club of 1,000-point scorers in SSU women's basketball history, ended the night with 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds.  Serena Santos, starting for the first time since December, made the most of all 40 minutes she played, handing out a career-best 10 assists along with eight points.

As a team, the Seawolves shot 50 percent from the floor on 31 of 62 attempts.  Cal State San Marcos didn't shoot much worse (44.8 percent on 26 of 58 attempts, including 8 of 18 from long range), and even had a 32-point effort from Savannah Camp, but Sonoma was able to secure the win late due in part by taking advantage of 16 CSUSM turnovers and turning them into 23 points.  In comparison, the Cougars only managed 11 points off 14 Seawolf miscues.

Now with 1,010 points in her career, Burroughs is fifth on the all-time SSU women's basketball scoring list behind career-scoring leader Jann Thorpe (1,575 career points), as well as Tara Whiteside (1,340), Nicole Fischer (1,305) and Genny Anderson (1,013).

Sonoma State will hit the road for two weeks, starting with a battle with San Francisco State next Saturday in San Francisco, starting at 5:30 pm.
