Ruiz Twirls Eight Inning Shutout, Seawolves Walk-Off CUI

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – One day after putting in seven innings of work and allowing a single earned run, senior right hander, Brigid Ruiz put in her best performance of the season, going eight innings of three-hit shutout ball, en route to a 1-0 walk off win over Concordia Irvine.

Ruiz was phenomenal Saturday as she faced just four over the minimum, giving up only three hits, no walks, and hitting two batters on the day and attacking the lower part of the zone, inducing 12 groundouts.

After seven and a half shutout innings the Seawolves finally broke the scoreless tie in extra innings. Jenn Amaral was placed on second to begin the frame and following a strikeout looking, the Seawolves connected for a base hit. Julie Davis singled to left field, sending Amaral to third but on a throwing error by the left fielder, Amaral advanced all the way to home, scoring the game's lone run and allowing the Seawolves to walk off winners in eight.

Sonoma State, who originally were scheduled to play Montana State Billings at 7:00 pm, found their game cancelled after a five-minute downpour altered the entire Saturday evening Tournament of Champions schedule. Tournament administrators aimed to ensure that each team completed at least one game on Saturday which forced some teams to drop their other scheduled game due to the lack of fields and remaining time slots.

Following the win Sonoma State moves to 20-9 on the season before the final day of the tournament's competition tomorrow. The Seawolves will return to Pedretti Sports Complex tomorrow to take on Central Washington at 11:30 am before facing off against Hawaii Pacific at 4:30 pm.
