BOX SCORE 2 TURLOCK, Calif. -- In the final day of the Tournament of Champions the Seawolves earned a split an a pair of tight games, losing to Central Washington 1-0 before beating Hawaii Pacific by a final of 4-2. With the split the Seawolves complete their schedule in the Tournament of Champions with two wins and three losses.
Central Washington 1, Sonoma State 0
Brigid Ruiz had another strong outing in the Seawolves opening game today. The senior right-hander went seven complete innings, shutting her opponents out in the first five innings. She gave up a lone run in the game which came in the sixth inning, while retiring six via the strike out amidst eight hits. With the loss she falls to 8-4 on the year. The game winning run took place in the sixth inning when Celine Fowler flied out to center and Kayla Smith scored from third.
The Seawolves compiled four hits in game one, and
Karly Macadangdang stole her first base of the year.
Central Washington pitcher Lexie Strasser also pitched a complete game and gave up four hits and got four strikeouts. She improves to 10-4 on the year.
Sonoma State 4, Hawai'i Pacific 2
Sonoma State ended their scoring drought in the first inning when
Sarah Langley collected an RBI single, scoring
Karly Macadangdang. Hawai'i Pacific would answer in the third when Sierra Dias hit an infield single which allowed Tiana Cantero-Kawelo to score. Sonoma State would retake the lead in the fifth off the bat of
Sarah Langley, who hit her second RBI single of the day. Sonoma State added insurance runs in the sixth thanks to
Aubrey Blankenburg, who came in as a pinch hitter and had an RBI single and scored
Jenn Amaral.
Alee Balanon would score the final Seawolf run of the day when she tripled to center field, bringing home Blankenburg. Hawai'i Pacific tried to answer in the seventh with an RBI single by Ashley Iseri, but their comeback fell short.
Brielle Vidmar got the win today with her complete game and improves to 10-3. She gave up two runs and had three strikeouts. Leonard Emilee got the loss for Hawai'i Pacific and falls to 2-2. She gave up nine hits, four runs (three earned) and had three strikeouts.
After splitting the day, the Seawolves are now 21-11 on the season. Sonoma State returns home this weekend to take on the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay. The four game series begins Friday at 1:00 pm at the Seawolf Softball Field.
