Rohnert Park – Sonoma State improved to 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference play after Saturday evenings 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 28-26) win over California State Monterey Bay who is projected to place fourth in the north division according to the CCAA preseason coaches' poll.
The Seawolves outscored the Otters, as they led the match in points (75 to 69), kills (67 to 57), aces (6 to 5), assists (59 to 49) and digs (52 to 38).
Sophomore
Tate Battistini recorded a career-high 19 kills against the Otters. As
Brianna Ranney notched 14 and
Caiti Wiesner knocked 13.
With a 2-0 lead, the Otters fought their way back to force an exhilarating fourth set.
The final set came down to 10 Otter errors, four kills by
Amy Trephan and Battistini, one kill by
Adriana Baysinger, an ace by
Jenna Miller and match winning (28-26) kill by Wiesner.
The Seawolves take to the road to continue CCAA play at Cal Poly Pomona September 14th at 7:00 p.m. in Pomona, Calif.
