San Marcos, Calif. – Sonoma State opened the new year with a convincing 80-66 victory over California State San Marcos.
Led by a season-high 16-point performance by
Armani Nicolis the Seawolves are now 6-8 overall and 4-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
After the Seawolves scored the opening basket the Cougars only lead came at the 15:44 mark. Sonoma State then scored 40 points to San Marcos' 21 to take the lead for good as they entered halftime.
Ten minutes into the final half Sonoma State extended its lead 63-37 a mere 26 point hold on the Cougars.
Nicolis scored a season-high 16 points to lead two double-digit scorers for the Seawolves, as
Isaac Davidson recorded his twelfth double-digit outing this season.
Sonoma State held San Marcos to 37.9 percent (22-for-58) from the field, including 25 percent (5-for-20) from behind the arc while the Seawolves shot just under 50 percent from the field (29-for-61), including 39.3 percent from the charity line.
Seawolves outscored the Cougars bench points 45 to 4 and second-chance points 14 to 5.
