San Francisco, Ca - The Sonoma State Men's Basketball team got the season underway with an exhibition contest at War Memorial Gymnasium against USF on Tuesday night. The Division 1 Dons proved to be too much for the Seawolves, here in the early season, winning 101-50.
Sonoma State gave up the first 8 points before going on an 8-0 run of their own, capped by
Isaac Davidson's jumper which tied the game. From there USF went on a 14-2 run and never looked back. USF out rebounded the Seawolves 52-23 making it tough to get stops as the lead began to grow in the second half.
It was the USF coaching debut for Todd Golden, as the Dons eclipsed the 100 point mark for the first time since 2016. Five USF players hit double figures on the night led by Charles Minlend and Khalil Shabazz with 15 points each.
Sonoma State was led by Davidson with 11. Michael Smith also hit double figures for SSU, hitting 4 of 10 shots and finishing the night with 10 points.
SSU only shot 3 free throws, making all 3 compared with 19-22 for the Dons. All-in-all good experience for the team as they prepare for the upcoming CCAA season.
Next up, Sonoma State will be in action at Dominican on Friday night.
