Rohnert Park, CA - After dropping back to back exhibition matches to UC Davis, our men's and women's tennis teams have won 5 of their combined 6 matches over the last two weeks of competition. Coach
Jose Hilla and the men's tennis team dropped back to back matches to division I opponents UC Davis and University of Nevada in their two scheduled scrimmages but have since then won two in a row sweeping their set of games last weekend against UC Santa Cruz and Holy Names.
The men put away the Banana Slugs 5-2 on Saturday and then finished the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Hawks of Holy Names.
Santiago Sarudiansky took home the player of the week honors for the men's side in the PacWest this week. Santiago won his doubles match alongside teammate
Harry Cohen and then claimed a hard fought come from behind victory in his singles match. After going down 6-2 in the first set, Sarudiansky took the second set 6-3 to force a final third set. He would get the match winner in their third set winning 6-4!
First year head coach
Rafael Martinez lead his group to 3 straight wins after dropping their first exhibition match against UC Davis. They won convincingly last weekend 5-2, 7-0, and 5-2 against Dominican, Mills College and Holy Names. Sweeping the weekend was huge for the Seawolves women's tennis team and coach Rafa was thrilled with his girls energy and "desire to compete and win" throughout the entire weekend. Player of the week winner,
Jenna DeTurk, went undefeated in her matches against rival Holy Names where she claimed her singles match in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2.
Both teams return to action this week in a home double header as the men take on American River College at 11:30 AM and the women follow facing off against the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific at 2 PM. Congrats to our Seawolf players of the week!!
