SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 13 ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team used a late goal by
Alyssa Silva and a stout defense to defeat Cal State San Bernardino 1-0 on Sunday. The Seawolves recorded their 8
th shutout of the season to improve to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in CCAA play.
Sonoma's defense was dominant from the start, not allowing much room for the Coyotes to work. The home team managed just four shots in the match, two in each half. Goalkeeper
Phoebe Barnes made two saves to earn her fifth solo clean sheet of the season.
The Seawolves knocked on the door several times throughout the game but finally broke the scoreless tie in the 87
th minute on a counter attack.
Renee Ketner played the ball long to
Malia Falk charging down the left side. Falk corralled the ball and send a cross to the center of the box. From there, Silva finished off the goal with a one-touch shot off the right post and into the back of the net.
The goal was Silva's second of the season while Falk picked up her second assist. These two combined for a goal on Friday as well with Silva assists on Falk's goal against Cal State San Marcos.
The Sonoma State defense has allowed just three goals this season in 10 matches. They have recorded four straight shutouts and have not allowed a goal in their last 430 minutes of action. The Seawolves currently lead the conference in goals against average at .293 and rank in the top-10 in country.
