ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Tuesday, November 15th, the 2022 D2 CCA women's soccer all-region teams were released, with sophomore phenom
Lexi Zandonella-Arasa headlining the group and being named the 2022 West Region Player of the Year! Arasa continues to put together a career season with numerous awards including her second All-CCAA First Team selection, CCAA Offensive Player of the Year, and now her second D2 CCA All-West Region selection in just her first two seasons as a Seawolf.
The 5-foot-4 midfielder from Concord has stormed onto the scene in her first two seasons as she led the Seawolves in back-to-back years in goals and tallied a career high and near record breaking 14 goals this season. She would also tie for the lead in the entire conference with 9 assists, good for another career high. Both statistics would allow her to be named to the all-conference first team and be named the 2022 CCAA Offensive Player of the Year.
Senior defender
Julia Pritchard would record her third all-region selection dating all the way back to the 2019 season. Pritchard was also named to the all-region first team for the second straight season as she was named to the first team in 2021 and would go on to be named a United Soccer Coaches All-American that year as well. In her own right, Pritchard had just as successful a season individually, as the Seawolves swept the all-conference offensive and defensive awards with Pritchard earning her second straight defensive player of the year award.
Pritchard concluded her senior campaign with 3 goals and 4 assists and recorded nearly 1700 minutes played, good for third most on the team. She will finish her Seawolf career as one of the program's most decorated players of all time and will have a shot at being named a two-time All-American in the coming weeks.
Rounding out the selections for Sonoma State was freshman midfielder
Annette Sotelo who was also named the CCAA Freshman of the Year, and would earn a spot on the All-Region Second Team. Sotel stormed onto the scene in her first year of collegiate soccer and stepped into a starting role right away. She would finish the regular season with 7 goals, tying the program record for most goals by a freshman. Her season high came in a massive home win over nationally ranked Western Washington where Sotelo registered the game winner in the 52nd minute.
The Seawolves finished their 2022 campaign earning their third straight CCAA regular season title and also qualifying for the program's 7th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. They finished with an overall record of 12-5-3. Congratulations once again to
Annette Sotelo,
Julia Pritchard, and
Lexi Zandonella-Arasa on their D2 CCA All-West Region selections and a fantastic season.
