ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. -
Jaylen Wells has been named the CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive time, this time for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
Wells put-up two more 25-plus-point games to average 29.5 points a game while pulling down 15 rebounds in two games to average 7.5 rebounds per game. He was 22 for 32 from the floor (69%) in two games to lead the Sonoma State Seawolves to a 1-1 split on the road.
In the overtime win at Cal State East Bay last Thursday, Wells netted 28 points on 10 of 16 shooting (63%) with 8 rebounds in 43 minutes of play. He was also 7 for 9 from the free throw line and added two assists and two steals. Wells helped force overtime with a game tying three pointer with 40 seconds left as the Seawolves would play some solid defense and help fore OT. Two days later at Cal State Dominguez Hills, in a losing effort, the sophomore forward from Sacramento, scored a career-high 31 points (12 for 16 for 75%) with seven rebounds.
The 31-point performance is now the second best single-game high during the CCAA this season, surpassing his 30-point game from a week earlier. Over the last six games, Wells has averaged 26.8 points per game and scored 25 or more points five times. He continues to lead the CCAA in scoring with 23.0 per game. Wells also becomes the first SSU men's basketball player to earn back-to-back conference Player of the Week honors since program Hall of Famer and current SF State men's basketball coach Vince Inglima did so during the 2005-06 season.
Sonoma State hosts two CCAA games this week with Stanislaus State (Thursday) and Chico State (Saturday) visiting The Wolves' Den.
