ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team upped their winning streak to three matches with a three-set sweep of Holy Names on Thursday night. The Seawolves racked up 43 kills in a 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18 victory while improving to 4-1 on the season.
SSU wasted little time jumping out to an advantage using an early four point run to take a 9-4 lead. After Holy Names closed the gap to two at 10-8 before the Seawolves ripped off an 11-4 run. SSU eventually led 23-14 and scored the final two points on a
Brooklyn Jackson kill and a
Leilani Hallman block. The Seawolves finished with 15 kills in the set with
Jen Trephan leading the way with five.
The second set remained close until the halfway point when Sonoma State used an 8-1 run to turn a 14-13 lead into a 22-14 advantage. They would close out the set a couple points later with a block and a kill from Jackson.
Kiana Richardson led all players in the second with four kills.
The Seawolves found themselves trailing in the third set 16-14 despite an early lead but once again they put together a run to overtake the Hawks. This time Sonoma State score nine of the next ten points to flip a two-point deficit into a six-point lead. Leading 23-16, Jackson and Richardson combined for the final two points with kills. The Seawolves finished with 15 kills in the set to bring their match total to 43, compared to 22 from the Hawks.
Trephan just missed a triple-double, leading all players with nine kills, 12 assists and 20 digs. Jackson also recorded nine kills while Hobbs added eight of her own.
Jaden Krist tacked on six kills and four blocks, including two solo.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow with two more matches, taking on Fresno Pacific at 1:00 pm and Academy of Art at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at
