WSOC vs. Chico State | Thursday, October 12th at 12:30 PM
HISTORY
The Sonoma State women's soccer program holds an 18-11-8 record since 2000 against the Wildcats and have the current edge in their latest meeting as the Seawolves won in dramatic fashion in the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament last season. After going down by a goal in the first overtime period, SSU would score two quick goals in the second overtime period to pull off the thrilling playoff win.
At home, the Seawolves have an impressive 10-4-4 record against the Wildcats and they will look to take advantage of their home matchup this Thursday as SSU continue to seek their first win in conference play. In the team's last ten matchups, Sonoma State has a 5-3-2 overall record with their last loss to the Wildcats coming in September of the 2022 season.
RECENT FORM
The women have gotten off to an uncharacteristic start this season as they currently hold a 2-5-3 overall record and are winless in conference play. Despite having one of the younger rosters in recent memory, head coach
Emiria Salzmann is no stranger to established success as she has the second most wins in program history and has made seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances dating back to 2015.
This season, the Seawolves pulled off some quality results against some of the best teams in the west region. In their non-conference schedule, Sonoma State recorded a pair of ties against 22nd ranked Colorado Springs and the defending National Champions Western Washington. They also grabbed a home win against PacWest member Biola before wrapping up their preseason slate on September 23rd.
Three of the team's four conference games have been decided by just one goal as the Seawolves will look to get on the right end of these close contests starting tomorrow against the Wildcats.

MSOC vs. #3 Chico State | Thursday, October 12th at 3:00 PM
HISTORY
The Sonoma State and Chico State men's soccer programs have a competitive history as one of the longest running rivalries in the CCAA. Since 1990, both teams have met 55 times with the Seawolves holding the edge with a record of 31-19-5. Their last matchup came in September of last season with the Wildcats coming out of Seawolf Soccer Field with a 2-1 victory. Over the last four seasons, Chico State has won three of the four matchups but this year presents a different scenario as the Wildcats are off to their best start in program history and currently stand as the 3rd ranked team in the nation.
The last time head coach
Marcus Ziemer took on a ranked Chico State team was in 2017 where the Wildcats were ranked 25th in the country. The Seawolves would battle the Wildcats to a scoreless draw at home in that matchup. This game comes at a pivotal time for SSU as they just won back-to-back matches on the road last weekend to even out their conference record at 2-2. With a great home crowd in the works, the stage will be set for one of the biggest upsets in program history. This season, SSU is 1-2 against ranked opponents and a win could propel them into the top half of the conference standings. Sonoma State owns a 17-8-2 record at home against Chico State and will look for their first home win over the Wildcats since 2015.
RECENT FORM
Marcus Ziemer and his squad had an up and down non-conference schedule with wins over Simon Fraser and Dominican but tough losses to Seattle Pacific, Saint Martin's and Biola. They kicked off their conference schedule with two ranked opponents in San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. The Seawolves outshot the Yotes 12-6 but San Bernardino was able to put away their best chance of the game and hang on for the 1-0 win. After a two goal loss to the Broncos, they hit the road still looking for their first conference victory and trying to avoid an 0-3 start.
They would face off against their third straight ranked opponent as Monterey Bay was off to one of their best starts in program history. The Seawolves showed no fear though and were able to get a goal in each half and get a great performance from keeper
Reinier ter Riet to preserve the shutout. They would finish the weekend with a wild five goal affair against San Francisco State but come out on top securing the 3-2 win to get back to .500 in conference play. The two massive road wins propelled them right back into the thick of the conference standings and set the stage for a home showdown with their rival Chico State.
