ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State scored three times in the first half, then cruised in the second to a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in CCAA women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon in Rohnert Park.
Alexica Bosque scored the first two goals as the 23rd-ranked Seawolves improve to 10-3-1, 6-2-1 CCAA. The Broncos fall to 6-6-2, 3-6-1 CCAA.
"This was a good win for us after Friday's tough tie," said SSU head coach Luke Oberkirch.
Bosque got the game's first goal in just the fourth minute when she was set up by a lob from freshman
Megan Cunningham. Twenty minutes later, Bosque doubled the lead when she found net off a
Brittany Peterson feed.
Said Oberkirch, "Those were two great goals by Alexica. She's been working real hard and she definitely deserved them."
Right before the half, the Seawolves put the game away when a
Brittany Finitz corner kick was headed by
Taylor Colacion and then booted in by
Lindsay Catton. It was the team-leading eighth goal of the year for the Seawolves' defender.
Courtney Grixti and the Sonoma State defense was solid, allowing just eight shots and preserving the shutout. Many of the Broncos' shots were from a distance.
The Seawolves out shot the Broncos 13-8.
The Seawolves will host the Academy of Art on Wednesday in a non-league game.
