Seawolves Pick Up 1-0 Non-League Win Over AAU

Brittany Peterson's third goal of the season was the difference Wednesday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Though it wouldn't be classified as one of their best performances of the year, the Sonoma State women's soccer team was just good enough for a 1-0 win over upstart Academy of Art on Wednesday afternoon at Seawolf Field.  The non-conference victory pushes the Seawolves' record to 11-3-1.  The Urban Knights fall to 2-9-1.

Said SSU head coach Luke Oberkirch, "It didn't seem like we could put the ball in the net today for anything.  You have to give credit to AAU...they did a good job.  They have some very good players."

The Seawolves had several chances to score early, but shot attempts continuously avoided the net by mere feet.  SSU was finally able to break through in the 25th minute.  Taylor Edmonds poked the ball on a quick corner to Brittany Peterson, who sliced it through the Urban Knight defense.  It was the third goal of the year for Peterson and the sixth assist for Edmonds.

Oberkirch used his reserve squad for most of the second half.  23 different Sonoma State players saw the field in all.

Sonoma State had a 16-2 advantage in shot attempts and a 5-0 edge in corners.  Courtney Grixti and Emma Dearman combined for the team's seventh shutout of the year.

The Seawolves resume conference play on Sunday at Humboldt State.
