ARCATA, Calif- Freshman
Taylor Edmonds scored the game-winner seven minutes into overtime to give Sonoma State a 2-1 win over Humboldt State on Sunday afternoon in Arcata. The Seawolves used a dominating overtime performance to pick up their 12th win of the season and go to 12-3-1, 7-2-1 CCAA overall. The Lumberjacks fall to 8-7-1, 4-5-1 CCAA.
The Seawolves took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when
Brittany Peterson scored off a
Lindsay Catton free kick. Their lead would hold until the 56th minute when the 'Jacks broke through on a Megan Kobler strike.
After 90 minutes of fairly even play (shots were tied at 16 entering OT), the Seawolves controlled play in overtime. Their first two shots of the extra frame missed, but Edmonds made sure that the third time was the charm when she collected a pass from
Brittany Peterson and drove it into the net.
The victory completes a season sweep of Sonoma State over Humboldt State. Both games were decided by 2-1 scores.
Courtney Grixti made four saves while her counterpart, Kelly Sandberg of Humboldt, posted ten.
The Seawolves are on the road next weekend to face Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.
