CHICO, Calif- Sophomore guard
Olivia Larkin had 17 points and six rebounds, as the Seawolves were able to capture their second victory at the Coslet Classic in Chico Saturday evening, 70-63 over Dixie State. Sonoma improves their unbeaten mark to 3-0, while Dixie State drops to 1-3 on the early season.
Larkin averaged 19.5 points per game in two games this weekend, earning MVP honors for the Tournament. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by senior
Lauren Redfield.
Dixie State held the lead for only a brief moment in the second half on a Tanya Clark layup with 17:06 left, 34-33. Sonoma State responded with a 7-0 run and would build upon their margin, eventually pushing their lead to 63-49 on a succesful layup from freshman guard
Jaclyn Bisordi with 2:11 remaining in the second half.
Three other Seawolves joined Larkin in double figures including Redfield with 12 points and five assists, Bisordi who finished with 11 points, and
Christy Shreve who posted 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Sonoma was able to hold off the Rebels in the second half thanks in large part to their free throw shooting. The Seawolves shot 18-of-25 in the final half, and 27-of-39 for the game to seal the deal against Dixie State.
Jessie Ingraham lead the Rebels with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and Sammi Griffiths chipped in 11 points and two assists.
Sonoma will return to the hardwood Dec. 3rd, when they open up CCAA play on the road in Humboldt.
