Late Inning Heroics Extend Win Streak To 20 Games

Steve Warner went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles on Monday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Robert Walden's two-out bloop single to center field scored Derek Harms with the game-winning run on Monday afternoon as the Seawolves came from behind to beat San Francisco State 8-7.  The win extends the second-ranked Seawolves' winning streak to 20 games in a row as they improve to 26-1 overall.  The Gators drop to 4-23.

The Seawolves finish off a season sweep of the Gators and extend their winning streak over their Bay Area rivals to 17 straight.  SSU also improves to 51-5 at Seawolf Diamond since the beginning of the 2007 season.

The Seawolves started only two players who have started over two games this season and relied on eight pitchers from the bullpen to keep the Gators in check.

Sonoma State got out to a 6-0 lead through five innings before the Gators found their groove, scoring two in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull within one.

In the eighth inning, SF State's Jeff McCall singled, then gave way to pinch runner Kyle Amick, who scored on a Jake Moore RBI single to tie the game at seven.

In the top of the ninth SSU closer Travis Babin issued a one-out walk to Conor Buestad, who then came around to score on a two-out Matt Memeo single, giving the Gators their first lead of the game.

Playing a bottom of the ninth for the first time in 16 games at Seawolf Diamond, the Seawolves saved just enough magic to get the "W".  Nick Ramos was hit by a pitch to lead of the inning.  Ramos then gave way to pinch runner Dave Herman, who scored on a clutch double by Ryan Averkieff.  Though Averkieff was thrown out trying for third, SSU was able to put another runner on with two outs when Nick DiNapoli was walked.  Coach John Goelz turned to another pinch runner, Derek Harms, who quickly stole second to get into scoring position.  The speedy Harms was then able to score on a lazy bloop single by Walden that bounced just in front of center fielder Ernie Munoz.

Steve Warner and Robert Walden each had three hits to lead the Seawolves.  Nick DiNapoli added two and Scott Wischnack was brilliant with three no-hit innings.

Matt Kavanaugh drove in three runs to pace the Gators.  Bobby Carini, Ernie Munoz, and Mat Edgecombe each had two hits.  Zach Peal was tagged with the loss as he goes to 2-6 on the year.

The Seawolves will host Cal State East Bay on Tuesday in another non-conference affair.
