Baseball Moves Up To No. 2 In National Rankings

The Sonoma State baseball team has won 19 consecutive games
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Riding a national best 19-game winning streak, the Sonoma State baseball team has climbed to No. 2 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Division II National poll.  The Seawolves jumped up two spots from last week's poll after sweeping San Francisco State over the weekend.

At 25-1, 14-0 CCAA, the Seawolves are off to the best start in school history.  Last year's 50-win squad that won the CCAA Championship and finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation was 21-5 after 26 games.

The Seawolves currently lead the CCAA in batting average (.359), earned run average (2.56), and fielding percentage (.977).  Mark Pestorich is tops in the conference in batting (.452) and four of his teammates (Ian Bridges, Nick Nosti, Dave Herman, and Kris Haycock) also rank in the top ten.

Mount Olive is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the fifth consecutive week.  The Trojans (33-2) earned 480 points in the poll to the Seawolves' 464.

The ranking is the second-best in school history and marks just the second time the Seawolves have gotten to the No. 2 spot.

The Seawolves host San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay on Monday and Tuesday in non-conference games before a big showdown this weekend with 16th-ranked Chico State.
