LAIE, Hawaii- For the second game in a row, a Sonoma State newcomer scored two goals to lead the Seawolves to a win. On Thursday it was
Kiley Brown. On Saturday it was
Alexica Bosque's turn as the sophomore led the Seawolves past BYU-Hawaii, 4-1. The win lifts Sonoma State to 2-0-0 on the season.
Lindsay Catton commenced the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 34th minute that hit the crossbar and rattled in. The score would stay 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half and well into the second before
Brittany Finitz scored in the 58th minute off a
Jackie Blumenthal assist.
With her team up 2-0, Bosque connected on the first of her two strikes in the 62nd minute off an assist from
Libby Moyer. Her second goal came with under a minute left after a phenomenal long run through defense the left the crowd and her coach impressed. Said Luke Oberkirch, "Alexica's run was simply amazing."
The Seasiders would get one goal back, in the 89th minute by Kahanu Ah Puck.
The Seawolves out shot the Seasiders 12-8 and led in corners, 9-4. Said Oberkirch, "it was a tough, muddy field, but again our conditioning made the difference. We were very strong in the second half."
Sonoma State will conclude their season-opening three-game road trip on Monday at Hawaii Pacific.
