ROHNERT PARK, Calif- After
Olivia Larkin's running jumper from the baseline with 14 seconds left in regulation tied things up, Sonoma State pulled away in overtime for a 66-59 win over San Francisco State on Saturday night in Rohnert Park. The win lifts the Seawolves to 5-6, 1-3 CCAA while the Gators drop to 7-4, 1-3 CCAA.
After a back and forth first half, the Gators captured the momentum in the second, building an 11-point lead in the first nine minutes at 43-32. Sonoma quickly cut that to four with a 7-0 run of their own, then went on to tie it at 44 with just under eight to go.
From that point, SF State surged ahead again, going back to a six-point lead with 4:21 left before the Seawolves methodically chipped away. Trailing 55-53, the Seawolves forced a turnover on the Gators' end of the court, then had once final chance to tie. Needing to get a shot off with the shot clock winding down, Larkin sliced up the baseline and tossed up a rainbow that found the bottom of the net.
In overtime, the Seawolves pulled away by connecting on seven of eight free throws and playing excellent defense.
