Webster Scores Early Goal, Seawolves Defeat Otters

Tracy Webster provided the only offense for the Seawolves on Friday.
SEASIDE, Calif- Senior Tracy Webster scored at the 17th minute and the Sonoma State defense only allowed two shots by Cal State Monterey Bay all afternoon, both in the final 20 minutes of play, helping the Seawolves to a 1-0 victory over the Otters on Friday afternoon at the Otter Soccer Complex. The Seawolves snap their brief two-match losing streak in moving to 6-7-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the CCAA. The Otters fell to 3-10-2 (2-8-1 CCAA).

Webster got the Seawolves on the scoreboard at 16:20 when she took a pass from freshman Bre Robles and dribbled in through the Otter defense, shooting it past Monterey Bay's Andrea Davis for the 1-0 score. Sonoma State then continued to keep the pressure on the Otters for the remainder of the half, taking a 6-0 shot advantage into the intermission.

The second half became more of a defensive battle between the two teams as neither team managed a shot until the 70th minute when Cal State Monterey Bay's Jessica Pardo attempted a shot that was saved by SSU goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua, her only save of the match. The only other shot came 82:21 by the Otters' Helen Kania that went high, as the Seawolves escaped with the narrow 1-0 victory.

Sonoma State was led by Webster, who had three shots and the aforementioned goal. Megan Cunningham, Holly Weaver and Macy Usher all fired off a shot for the Seawolves as well. Davis made three stops for the Otters between the posts.

The Seawolves will next travel to San Francisco State to take on the Gators at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
