Women's Soccer Earns Draw At First Place Chico

Marissa Shaw collected her first goal of the season on Friday.
CHICO, Calif-  Sonoma State got a goal from Marissa Shaw late in the second half to tie division-leading Chico State 1-1 on Friday evening in Chico.  The tie keeps the Seawolves post-season hopes alive as they go to 6-8-3, 4-6-3 CCAA.  The Wildcats go to 7-4-6, 5-2-6 CCAA.

With 15 points, the Seawolves currently trail the first place Wildcats by six with three games left.  San Francisco State sits in second place with 20 points after beating Cal State Monterey Bay in double overtime on Friday.

Following a scoreless first half, Chico State drew first blood when Kasey Wall headed in a ball off a Blake Lopes free kick in the 51st minute. 

In the 77th minute, Shaw found the equalizer, netting one from 15 yards out of a Libby Moyer corner kick. 

Despite being out shot in regulation 9-8, the Seawolves took all three of the shots in the overtime periods to finish with an 11-9 advantage.

Tracy Webster led Sonoma with four shots and Alexis Sciacqua made three saves for the Seawolves in goal. 

Friday's tie was the second of the season between the teams and it extended Sonoma State's unbeaten streak against their rival to five in a row (3-0-2).

The Seawolves will head down Highway 99 on Sunday to take on Cal State Stanislaus.
