Cam Vickers scored in the first half, but Sonoma State came up empty the rest of the way, in the end settling for a 1-1 tie with Humboldt State on Friday evening in Arcata. The 14th-ranked Seawolves go to 13-3-3, 10-3-2 CCAA on the season. The Lumberjacks move to 6-10-3, 5-8-2 CCAA.
Humboldt State got on the board first when Josh Suggs scored off a Tony Ramirez assist in just the eighth minute. It was the first shot of the game for the Lumberjacks and the only one they would attempt in the game's first 22 minutes.
The Seawolves were able to counter in the 27th minute when Vickers took a free ball at the top of the box and pounded it to the far post, past the keeper and into the net.
Though shots would pile up, reaching 37 total between the teams, neither squad was able to score in the second half or through two overtime periods.
Sonoma State's
Brook Johnson made four saves in net while his counterpart Kyle Verle of Humboldt was troubled for nine.
The Seawolves took 22 shots in the game, led by four from
Ryan Hall and
Casey Bernard.
Sonoma and Humboldt will now close out the regular season on Sunday in Rohnert Park. Game time is set for 11:30 am and all of the Seawolves' seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
