ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Senior Jennifer Russo scored a season-high 13 points and senior Stephanie Barnes and junior Oly Larkin added 11 apiece as the Seawolves led from start to finish, giving Sonoma State its first conference victory of the season with a 54-46 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night at The Wolves' Den.

Sonoma State improved to 3-1 overall and evened its California Collegiate Athletic Association record to 1-1. The Toros, meanwhile, fell to 1-4 and 1-1.

After a layup by sophomore Aly Conway with 13:42 left in the opening half, the Seawolves held a 11-2 lead. However, the Toros would cut into their deficit to just two at 15-13 with a jumper by Jessica Cannon with a little over five minutes remaining before halftime. A layup by Jaclyn Bisordi would give Sonoma State a four point lead but a three pointer by CSUDH's Brandie McCann put the Toros within one point at 17-16. It would be the closest that they would get the rest of the evening. Despite shooting better than the Seawolves (27 percent to 23 percent), the Toros found themselves trailing 22-16.

The Seawolves came shooting out of the gate in the second half, riding a 15-0 run in the first five minutes to give Sonoma State a commanding 35-18 lead. Cal State Dominguez Hills would not roll over, though. The Toros came roaring back with several small runs and a layup by Barbara Houston put the Toros down by four at 43-39.

Each team traded possessions via several turnovers and missed shots but a huge three pointer by SSU freshman Nadia Williams and two free throws by Larkin put the Seawolves up nine with a minute and a half remaining. The Toros answered with five points over the next 50 seconds but Russo took over, scoring six of her game-high 13 points in the final 32 seconds to give the Seawolves the 54-46 victory.

Barnes added seven rebounds on top of her 11 points and had a game-high three steals. Sonoma State shot 32 percent from the floor on 16-of-50 shooting, including 6-of-22 from three point land.

Kala Amico led Cal State Dominguez Hills with 10 points and Barbara Houston came down with 10 rebounds.

Sonoma State will hit the floor again on Saturday to take on Cal State L.A. at The Wolves' Den. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-2 CCAA) fell to Humboldt State on Thursday night, 68-52, and remains winless this season.
