Baseball Shuts Out San Francisco State, 14-0

Danny Pignataro had two doubles and three RBIs on Tuesday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State pitching staff tossed their third shutout in the last four games on Tuesday in a 14-0 rout of San Francisco State at Maloney Field in San Francisco.  The Seawolves improve to 6-0 on the year while the Gators fall to 4-2.

The Seawolves have now won 18 consecutive games against the Gators dating back to 2006 and they have outscored their opponents 49-7 this season.

Sonoma jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, providing the pitching staff with all the run support they'd need.  The Seawolves would use four pitchers in all- Gary Moran, Taylor Lewis, Thomas Lee, and Brian Flint- in holding the Gators to just nine hits and one walk.  Lewis (1-0) earned the win after allowing two hits and striking out four in three innings.

The offense came up with a season-high 16 hits, led by two from Max Kirk, Danny Pignataro, and Ian Bridges.  Pignataro had a pair of doubles and three RBIs, despite not entering the game until the sixth inning.  Kirk, Mark Pestorich, Bridges, Brian Wright, and Kris Haycock also had doubles as the Seawolves got to Gator starter Patrick Haugen for eight runs in four innings.

The Seawolves will head to Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday to face the Otters in a non-conference game.

GAME NOTES:  The win was the 797th of head coach John Goelz's career...it marks the second year in a row that the Seawolves have opened the season 6-0...the Seawolves have a record of 108-27 since 2007.
