CARSON, Calif- Sonoma State picked up their first conference win of the season in game one by an 11-8 score, only to see Cal State Dominguez Hills storm back for a 5-1 win in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon in Carson. The win, combined with yesterday's sweep, give the Toros a three game to one victory in the series. CSUDH is now 7-5, 3-1 CCAA. The Seawolves leave town with a record of 8-3, 3-1 CCAA.
In game one, after four scoreless innings, the Seawolves found the game's first runs in the fifth on a two-run double by
Kris Haycock. Two more runs in the sixth followed and after a seven-run seventh inning, the Seawolves had an 11-0 lead. The Toros, however, did not mail in the final three innings, scoring six times in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the ninth to make it an 11-8 final.
Haycock finished the game with three hits, all doubles, and three runs batted in.
Cameron Ray was credited with the win after tossing 6 2/3 innings and allowing just one unearned run.
The win was the 799th of head coach
John Goelz's career.
The momentum the Toros seemed to capture late in game one carried over to game two. Up 3-1 heading into the fourth, Dominguez Hills effectively put the game away with two runs in the inning. Five runs proved to be more than enough support for Toro starter Kody Kurowski, who allowed just five hits and struck out four in a complete game seven-inning effort.
No Seawolves had more than a single hit in the second game. Haycock scored the team's only run, on an error in the third inning.
Alberto Rolon picked up the loss after giving up five runs in five innings.
The Seawolves return to action next Saturday when they face No. 2 Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. The next day sees the teams play a doubleheader at Seawolf Diamond.
