TURLOCK, Calif- After Friday's action was rained out, the Sonoma State softball team finally kicked off their 2009 season on Saturday with a pair of losses to two of the CCAA's top teams. The Seawolves opened up Saturday's action with an 8-0 defeat to defending national champion Humboldt State before falling to host Cal State Stanislaus, 5-1.
In the opener, Humboldt scored at least one run in each of the game's five innings, pounding out 13 hits in all. The Seawolves managed just three hits, two of them off the bat of newcomer
Janelle Arnold.
Brittany Williams got the start and allowed five runs in four innings of work.
Game two was much more promising for Sonoma State, though again they'd have trouble at the plate. Freshman
Brittany Reynolds was brilliant, tossing three no-hit innings before giving way to 2007 All-Region hurler
Lindsay Emmel. The Warriors finally broke through in the fourth inning with a single run before adding two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and another in the seventh.
Nicole Cordova went 2-for-2 for the Seawolves.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow when they face Cal State Dominguez Hills and Montana State-Billings.
