ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Softball has ended their regular season winning 19 of their final 24 games and securing the fourth overall seed in the upcoming CCAA Conference Tournament! Alongside the teams overall success seven players were honored among the end of year awards in the CCAA, most notably with Sonoma earning both the Freshman and Newcomer of the Year awards!
Leading the way for the Seawolves among all their individual recognition is the duo of Sophia Newcomb and Iris Bejarano.
Newcomb was officially named the conference Freshman of the Year after a dominant season at center field. Newcomb posted top 10 marks among the entire conference in batting average, stolen bases, hits and runs scored. She also led the entire CCAA in triples with seven! For the season Newcomb earned 54 starts, batted .375 in 192 at bats and drove in 29 runs for good measure.Â
Bejarano joined Sonoma's roster after spending last season with the Gaels of St. Mary's. Bejarano became an anchor for her team at first base highlighted by her consistently clutch hitting and strong defensive presence at first. For the season she finished top 10 in fielding percentage, fielding double plays and total putouts. At the plate she managed a .308 batting average to go along with eight doubles and 29 RBIs. For her work in over 50 starts she was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year!
Sonoma would go on to place four players on the CCAA 1st Team with Newcomb being joined by Amari Houston, Charlie Johnson and Kaiya Dickens.
Houston enjoyed a dominant breakout season in her final year of collegiate softball. Houston was a force on offense finishing among the top 10 in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, triples and stolen bases.Â
Charlie Johnson was arguably the best pitcher in the entire conference and had the statistics to back it up. Johnson managed a conference best 20 wins to go along with an impressive 1.65 ERA. Johnson was a workhorse for the Seawolves pitching in over 178 innings while also posting 21 complete games.Â
Lastly, Kaiya Dickens was another staple of the Seawolves infield starting in 53 games. Dickens was equally impactful in the field where she was among the best in the conference with top 10 marks in assists and double plays while also posting second most triples and 10th most RBIs in the CCAA!
Among the CCAA 2nd Team honorees Jasmine Moreno and Ava Paquin both earned recognition as well. Moreno was one of the best catchers in the conference and has been for the past two years earning All-Conference recognition last year as well. In 2025 Moreno led the Seawolves in homeruns to go along with a .293 and 22 RBIs. Alongside Johnson, Moreno was a force to be reckoned with for opposing batters while also throwing out six runners attempting to steal.Â
Ava Paquin was another standout freshman for Sonoma State and did her damage inside the pitching circle. Paquin was second on Sonoma State with over 70 innings of pitching to her resume and was highly efficient thanks to a 2.69 ERA while also earning eight wins. For good measure, Paquin recorded a no-hitter on the year as well when she dominated the Otters of Monterey Bay late in the year!Â
The last player to earn a place among the All-Conference teams was veteran third baseman Lauren Mirtoni! Mirtoni did everything for the Seawolves as she was third on the team in batting average hitting over .346 for the year, led the team in RBIs with 34 and hit over 13 combined doubles and triples!
