TURLOCK, Calif- Behind a spectacular start from
Lindsay Emmel and some late game offensive fireworks, the Sonoma State softball team earned a tough road split on Friday afternoon against Cal State Stanislaus. The Seawolves won game one, 5-3 in 11 innings before dropping the nightcap, 8-1. The split leaves the Seawolves at 16-14, 7-10 CCAA and the Warriors at 16-8, 11-7 CCAA.
After winning seven of their last eight entering Friday's action, the Seawolves are now 11-4 in their last 15 games dating back to February 28th.
Emmel was simply dominant in game one, striking out a career-high 15 batters and allowing just one hit through the game's first ten innings. However, she would be matched pitch-for-pitch by the Warriors' Jessica Gaumnitz and the teams would enter the 11th inning scoreless. That's when the Sonoma bats came alive.
In one inning, the Seawolves doubled their season's output for home runs as
Nicole Cordova blasted a two-run shot and
Ashley Britton a three-run job. Up 5-0, however, the Seawolves could not rest as the Warriors rallied for three to make it a 5-3 final margin.
In game two, the Seawolves established a new season-high with seven errors, which led to seven unearned runs in a seven-run loss.
Brittany Reynolds got the start, but was knocked out early, giving way to
Brittany Williams. The Seawolves actually got out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from
Kayla Ledford, but after that it would be all Warriors.
The series concludes on Saturday with another doubleheader.
