Streaking Seawolves Sweep Twinbill Against Warriors

Lindsay Emmel continued her dominant play against Stanislaus
TURLOCK, Calif- Powered by another fine pitching performance by Lindsay Emmel, the Sonoma State softball team was able to sweep Saturday's twinbill from Cal State Stanislaus, winning game one 5-2, and defeating the Warriors in the nightcap, 3-2. With the series win, red-hot Sonoma improves to 18-14 overall, and 9-10 in CCAA play, while Stanislaus drops to 16-10, 12-8 in the CCAA.

Sonoma's ace picked up where she left off yesterday, going the distance in game one to pick up her tea-leading eighth win of the season, then holding off the Warriors in game two for her fifth save of the year.

The Seawolves struck first in the opener, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth.  Jessica Abelia stole third, then scored on a throwing error from the catcher for the first run, then Simone Brandalise singled to center to plate pinch-runner Nikki Jaime.

The Warriors tied the game in the fifth on a two-run double by Erica McIntyre that drove home Kimiko Wright and Nikki Risseto.  The Seawolves, though, would tally three more runs in the seventh, providing more than enough cushion for Emmel.

In game two, Stanislaus struck in the first with back-to-back doubles by Brittany Balanesi and Meghan Franksen.  From there, Seawolf starter Brittany Williams settled down, retiring 11 of the next 12 batters she'd face.  Meanwhile, Sonoma scored twice in the second to capture the lead.

The Seawolves added another run in the fifth when Kayla Ledford doubled down the left field line to plate Janelle Arnold, giving the squad a 3-1 lead.

The Seawolves are now 13-4 in their last 17 games, dating back to February 28th.

Sonoma State returns to action next weekend, when they hit the road to battle Cal State Monterey Bay.
