Softball Rolls To Sweep Of Cal State East Bay

Simone Brandalise had eight RBIs in Tuesday's doubleheader
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State softball team used an impressive offensive performance on Tuesday to take both ends of a doubleheader with Cal State East Bay, winning game one 8-2 before exploding for a 19-2 win in game two.  The sweep leaves the Seawolves at 22-16 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 7-19.

The 19 runs scored in game two were the most by a Sonoma State team since March 11, 1992.  On that day, the Seawolves blanked Menlo College by a 24-0 margin.

The Seawolves blew open game one with a five-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Simone Brandalise.  Another two-run double, this one from Kayla Ledford made the score 7-2 in the fourth and seemed to end any chance of the Pioneers coming back.

Brittany Williams got the win after a brilliant two-hit, two-walk performance that saw her strike out five.

In game two, the Pioneers got on the board first with two runs in the first inning.  From there, it would be all Seawolves as they rallied to tie in the bottom of the first.  In the third, the Seawolves brought 15 batters to the plate, collected ten hits, and posted 11 runs.  In the third inning alone, Brandalise had two triples and drove in six runs.

The Seawolves were not done after their big third inning, batting around again in the fourth, and scoring six more runs.  Brandalise finished the game with six RBIs and three players- Janelle Arnold, Jessica Abelia, and Nicole Cordova- each had three hits apiece to lead a 17-hit attack.

Williams pitched the second game as well, again allowing just two hits on the way to the victory.

The Seawolves return to the diamond on Friday when they compete in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock.
