ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Playing a rare triple-header, the Sonoma State softball team picked up one win against UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The Tritons won game one (9-1) and game three (5-0) with the Seawolves taking game two (2-1). The day's results leave the Seawolves at 8-12, 6-9 CCAA. The Tritons are now 12-9, 6-5 CCAA.
Though Sonoma would jump out to an early 1-0 lead in game one, the Tritons quickly stormed back with four runs in the second. After a run in the fifth, UCSD would end things early with another four-run sixth. Amanda Eliades provided much of the damage, finishing the game with two hits and four runs batted in. The Seawolves could manage just three hits in game one, two of them off the bat of
Kayla Ledford.
Brittany Williams went the distance, allowing ten hits and striking out five.
The Seawolves struck back in game two to earn a victory behind the strong right arm of freshman
Brittany Reynolds. Reynolds stuck out ten batters and surrendered just four hits as the Seawolves used a come-from-behind effort. Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Sonoma got a double from
Janelle Arnold, a sacrifice fly from Ledford, then an RBI single from
Carli Feuerbach.
In game three, the Tritons emerged with a 5-0 win despite managing just one hit.
Lindsay Emmel did a superb job through six innings, allowing no hits and striking out ten, before things got messy in the seventh. After an error to lead off the inning, the Tritons got their lone hit, a triple by Jenni Habib. Another error and four walks would follow as the game got away from Sonoma at the end. The Seawolves managed six hits in the game, two of them from
Simone Brandalise.
The Seawolves are off until next weekend when they host the Seawolves Invitational Softball Tournament.
