ROHNERT PARK, Calif-
Lindsay Emmel was simply brilliant on Friday afternoon, striking out 14 batters in Sonoma State's 7-0 win over the Academy of Art in Rohnert Park. Emmel allowed just one hit as the Seawolves rolled to their seventh straight home victory. On the season, the Seawolves are now 27-19. The Urban Knights fall to 10-27.
The Seawolves would get all the runs they would end up needing in the first inning. After back-to-back singles by
Janelle Arnold and
Jessica Abelia,
Kayla Ledford pounded a double to center field, plating both and staking Sonoma to a 2-0 lead.
Nicole Cordova would follow with an RBI single, making it a three-run inning and providing Emmel with more than enough support.
Emmel was pretty much "lights out" from the first inning on. After giving up a second inning double to Shampayne Clay, Emmel set down 16 consecutive hitters before hitting Alana Aweau in the seventh. The Atascadero native did not allow a walk, in the process earning her fourth shutout of the season.
The Seawolves got hits from nearly everyone in the lineup on their way to ten for the game. The top of the lineup was particularly effective with both Arnold and Abelia earning two hits.
Sonoma State returns to the diamond next Friday when they host Cal State San Bernardino.
