Baseball Swept By Chico State On Saturday

CHICO, Calif-  The 15th-ranked Sonoma State baseball team was stunned on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Chico State at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.  The Wildcats won by scores of 2-1 and 9-3 to improve to 24-17, 14-12 CCAA.  The Seawolves drop one spot in the CCAA standings, to third place, falling to 24-11, 16-10 CCAA on the year.

The Seawolves were shut down in game one by Chico starter Pete Mickartz, who allowed just one run over seven innings.  The Wildcats got their runs in the first two innings, then rode the strong arm of Mickartz and reliever Ian Waldron to victory.

Cameron Cook accounted for the Seawolves' lone run, driving in Kris Haycock in the second inning.  Gary Moran pitched well for the Seawolves, allowing just one earned run, but he picked up the loss, going to 6-2 on the year.

In game two, the Seawolves fell behind early as the 'Cats exploded for four runs in the first inning.  Cody Dee finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBIs.  For Sonoma State, Leo Avila drove in two runs and Nick Ramos had a pair of RBIs.

The Seawolves and Wildcats will conclude their series on Monday with a doubleheader in Rohnert Park.
