Seawolves Split With Gators On Friday

Lindsay Emmel struck out ten Gators on Friday afternoon
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State softball team earned a split with San Francisco State on Friday, winning game one 3-1 before falling in the nightcap, 1-0.  The Seawolves, however, moved in to the driver's seat in terms of a CCAA Tournament berth as UC San Diego lost twice at Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Seawolves are now 32-20, 16-13 CCAA.  The Gators go to 30-23, 12-18 CCAA.

Cal State Dominguez Hills also lost twice on Friday, to Cal State Stanislaus, leaving the Seawolves just a half game behind the Toros for third place in the CCAA.

Game one saw Lindsay Emmel strike out ten while allowing just four hits to earn her 15th victory of the season.

Scoreless through two innings, the Seawolves broke through in the bottom of the second when Kayla Ledford drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt.  A second run was added later in the inning when Nicole Cordova brought in a run with a single to left.  The Seawolves would pick up one more run in the fourth on an RBI single by Ashley Britton.  The Gators' lone run came in the fifth on an RBI single from Alyssa Esquibel.

Simone Brandalise led the Seawolves at the plate with two hits, including a triple.  Kelsey Wood was the lone Gator with more than one hit.

In game two, SF State's Vanessa Truan was very strong, allowing just two hits and, despite six walks, no runs.  The Gators got the game's only score in the third inning when Kelly McDonald doubled in Monica Amburgey.

Sonoma's Brittany Reynolds was the hard-luck loser, tossing four innings while giving up three hits and  striking out two.  Brittany Williams pitched three innings of one-hit relief.

The Seawolves and Gators will close out the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at Seawolf Field.  It will be Senior Day and the Seawolves' three seniors- Brittany Williams, Lindsay Emmel, and Nicole Cordova- will be honored prior to game one.
