HAYWARD, Calif- The Sonoma State offense managed just one hit on Tuesday afternoon in a 1-0 defeat to Cal State East Bay in Hayward. The Seawolves fall to 30-12 on the season while the Pioneers, a future member of the CCAA, improve to 16-24.
Held without a hit for the first four innings of the game by Pioneer starter Roberto Rodriguez, the Seawolves finally broke through on a single by
Jonathan Lewis to lead off the fifth. Rodriguez, however, got the next three batters out to regain control of the inning, then cruise to the shutout win.
Perhaps lost in the poor hitting display was a fine day by the Sonoma pitching staff. Though they gave up nine hits to Pioneer batters, the staff worked out of jams all day, only letting a run come in on a two-out RBI single in the fourth.
Thomas Lee got the start and went three innings, allowing four hits.
Cameron Ray was tagged with the loss.
The Seawolves will now turn their sights to this weekend's big series against Cal State L.A.. First pitch for Friday is set for 2:00 pm.
