PALM SPRINGS, Calif- Sonoma State suffered a lopsided 16-1 loss to UC San Diego on Friday afternoon at the CCAA Baseball Championship Tournament in Palm Springs. The defeat sets up a rematch with Cal State L.A. at about 7:15 pm on Friday night.
Friday's score resulted in the worst playoff defeat in Sonoma State history. The Tritons would score in every inning but the sixth, the biggest outburst coming in the fifth when they scored six runs.
Morgan Rodriguez went the first four innings for the Seawolves with
Cameron Ray and
Jacob Fiss appearing in relief.
The Seawolves managed six hits in the game, two of them off the bat of Fiss. The Tritons produced 20, with Brandon Gregorich (4-for-5, six RBIs) and Vance Albitz (4-for-7, four RBIs) turning in particularly impressive performances.
The Seawolves finally got on the board in the ninth inning when
Brian Wright hit a solo home run to right field.
