Tritons, Antelopes Play To Scoreless Draw

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  In a battle between two evenly matched sides, defense reigned supreme on Sunday as Grand Canyon and UC San Diego played to a 0-0 tie in men's soccer action at the Seawolf Classic in Rohnert Park.  The Antelopes go to 1-1-1 while the Tritons move to 3-0-1.

Though UC San Diego would finish with a 14-9 shot advantage, neither team mounted much of a threat and only five shots were on goal the entire game.

Shane Micheil, who scored both UCSD goals in Friday's 2-1 win over Notre Dame de Namur, attempted a team-high four shots in the contest.  Grand Canyon got three each from Jesse Baker and Pat Perkins.

In recording the shutout, Peter Akman of UCSD made three saves while Ben Paneccasio of GCU made two.

Despite little action in the way of offense, the game was not without fireworks as the teams combined for seven yellow cards- four on UCSD and three on GCU.  There were also 29 fouls whistled- 17 of which were called against the 'Lopes.

The final game of the 2009 Seawolf Classic pits No. 12 Sonoma State against Notre Dame de Namur.

Box Score:  Grand Canyon 0, UC San Diego 0
