LOS ANGELES, Calif- Cal State L.A. held Sonoma State to just six shots while peppering
Alexis Sciacqua with 25 attempts, one of which found the net, giving the Golden Eagles the 1-0 victory over the Seawolves on Friday night under the lights at Jesse Owens Stadium in the Billie Jean King Sports Complex. SSU has been held scoreless in 10 of their 12 matches this season, falling to 1-7-3 in CCAA play and 2-7-3 overall. CSULA improved to 9-3-0 overall (8-3-0 CCAA).
The Golden Eagles kept the Sonoma State defense busy all night, firing 12 shots in the opening 45 minutes and another 13 shots in the second half. Sciacqua made a season-high nine saves in the contest. However, one shot slipped in behind her -- a header by Amanda Taylor from a corner kick by Liz Franco at 56:14 to give Cal State L.A. the 1-0 lead and the eventual victory.
Shayla Mellenthin led the offense with two of the Seawolves' six shots, four of which were on goal. CSULA's Gabriella Batmani made all four saves.
Sonoma State will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, starting at 11:30 a.m. at Toro Stadium.
