Seawolves Suffer Another Shutout Loss, Fall 1-0

J.J. McFarlin and the Seawolves defense played tough all afternoon.

CARSON, Calif- Alexis Scaicqua and the Sonoma State defense held strong all afternoon, but Cal State Dominguez Hills found the net in the 75th minute and held the Seawolves to just five shots in 90 minutes to grab the 1-0 victory on Sunday at Toro Stadium. Sonoma State remains winless in its last five matches, falling to just 1-8-3 in conference play (2-8-3 overall).

Sciacqua had a career-high match, saving 12 Toro shots in the contest. Cal State Dominguez Hills (10-3-1, 8-3-1 CCAA) fired 19 attempts on Sunday, but it wasn't until the 16th shot that counted. Jessica Murphy gained possession at 74:16 and beat Sciacqua to the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead and her 11th goal of the season. Taylor Canatsey and Lexi Ford were credited with the assist on the play.

Sonoma State managed just five shots in the match, four of which came in the second half. Shayla Mellenthin and Allie Maduell accounted for two shots apiece. Alyssa Congdon made three stops between the posts for Cal State Dominguez Hills.

It was the fifth consecutive match that the Seawolves have been held scoreless, and the 11th time in 13 matches this season.

Sonoma State will take on travel partner Humboldt State next weekend in a home-and-home series. Friday's match at Arcata will kick off at 4:30 p.m. before returning home on Sunday to face the Lumberjacks again, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
