Box Score: San Francisco State 1, Sonoma State 0
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-
Ashley Martin and
Allison Kern combined for six of Sonoma State's game-high 15 shots, but San Francisco State's Myriah Johnson gave the Gators a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute and SFSU eventually held on for the victory over the Seawolves on Homecoming Sunday at the Seawolf Soccer Field. SSU drops to 2-5-2 overall and 1-5-2 in conference play. The Gators improve to 6-2-2 and 5-2-1.
The Seawolves held a 7-3 lead in shots through the opening half, none of which found the net. It was much of the same in the second period, outshooting the Gators 15-8 in the match, but it was Johnson's goal at 61:16 that deflated SSU. SFSU goalkeeper Annicia Jones stayed busy between the posts all afternoon, making seven huge saves to secure the shutout.
Courtney Grixti made three saves for Sonoma State while Martin and Kern led the offensive attack with three shots apiece.
Sonoma State will return to action on Friday when it hosts Chico State at 3 p.m.
