Box Score: Sonoma State 60, Cal State East Bay 56

HAYWARD, Calif- Aly Conway led all scorers with 15 points, seven of which came from the free throw line, but Sonoma State had to survive a furious rally with under ten minutes to play by host Cal State East Bay to win 60-56 on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward. The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the Seawolves, who improve to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA. The Pioneers remain winless at 0-8 and 0-4.

Sonoma State led from start to finish and stretched its lead to double-digits on several occasions, but Cal State East Bay would never count themselves out. A ten-point 17-7 Seawolf lead would turn into a 14-point 29-15 lead, the largest lead of the first half, but a jumper by the Pioneers Claudia Nelson trimmed the SSU halftime lead to 12 points at 29-17.

CSUEB's Lauren Lucchesi nailed two three-pointers to open the second half of play, putting the Pioneers within six points just one minute into the period. However, the Seawolves would eventually take a 20-point lead (51-31), their largest of the game, with 8:33 remaining.

Lucchesi then capped off a strong 25-7 run by Cal State East Bay to pull within two points, 58-56, with one minute remaining in regulation. Conway then corralled an offensive rebound on the Seawolves next trip down the floor and put it back, giving SSU a narrow four-point lead with 25 seconds left. CSUEB then missed their last two shots of the contest, both by Sarah Finlay, allowing Sonoma State to escape with a 60-56 victory.

The Seawolves hit just 35.2 percent from the floor (19-54) while the Pioneers converted 36.4 percent on 20-of-55 shooting. Conway's 15 came on 4-of-6 shooting and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. She also came down with six rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass. Aly Henington added eight points for the Seawolves while Jaclyn Bisordi and Taylor Vigil chipped in with seven apiece.

Nelson scored 13 points for Cal State East Bay, complemented by the 11 points of Lucchesi and Finlay. Marlene MacMillan brought down ten boards to lead all players.
