Seawolves Fall Cold In Loss At Chico State, 52-41

CHICO, Calif- Scoring just five points in the opening 15 minutes of the game, the Sonoma State women's basketball team couldn't overcome a halftime deficit, shooting just 25.5. percent from the floor on Saturday evening, en route to a 52-41 loss at Chico State. Since winning the first three games of the season, the Seawolves have dropped the last two games, falling to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Wildcats remain undefeated at 6-0 and 4-0.

Chico State led from start to finish, starting the game on an 8-1 run in the first four minutes. The Wildcats then pounced all over the Seawolves, sprinting out to an 18-5 lead with 5:52 left in the opening half. Sonoma State, however, chipped away at the lead over the next five minutes and trailed by nine points at 23-14 heading into the locker room at halftime.

It was the lowest scoring output by the Seawolves since they scored just 14 points in the first half against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 26, 2009. Sonoma State hit just five shots from the field (5-27, 18.5 percent) as junior Jaclyn Bisordi had four of them, scoring 11 of the 14 points for SSU in the half.

The Seawolves went on to score the first four points of the second half, trailing by just five points at 23-18, but the Wildcats scored the next six points to get up to a double-digit lead once again.

Sonoma State kept the Chico State lead at no more than 14 points the rest of the way, but the Seawolves were unable to overcome the lead, despite getting within seven points at 48-41 after a Bisordi three pointer at the 1:19 mark. The Wildcats eventually went on to remain unbeaten at 6-0 and 4-0 in conference play with the 52-41 win.

Bisordi scored 17 of the Seawolves' 41 points, the only Sonoma State player in double figures. SSU hit just 25.5 percent from the field on 13-of-51 shooting. Chico State shot 36.7 percent, connecting on 18-of-49 attempts. Kristin Marquardt led the Wildcats with 14 points.

Sonoma State will open up its home schedule hosting the CCAA/GNAC Challenge next weekend at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves will take on Seattle Pacific (Dec. 10) at 7 p.m. before facing Western Washington (Dec. 11) at 7 p.m. -- both ranked in the Top 25 of the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll this week.
