Big Fourth Inning By Gators Doom Seawolves, 10-1

Sonoma State fell to the Gators in non-conference action on Tuesday.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State was able to get on the board in the final inning, but unfortunately for the Seawolves, San Francisco State had already hit double digits en route to a 10-1 non-conference victory at Seawolf Diamond on Tuesday.  With the loss, Sonoma State falls to 12-16 on the season.  San Francisco State improves to 12-17 for the year.

The Seawolves put themselves down early in the top of the second inning with two errors.  Sean Proni reached first base on a bobbled handle from shortstop Erik Hansen.  Proni then advanced to third after a failed pick off attempt and bad throw to second.  The very next batter, Tyler Overstreet, brought him home on a groundout to Hansen.

It was the fourth inning, however, that spelled doom for the Seawolves. Ken Cook came into pitch for Ian Ocon and on the very first pitch gave up a towering shot to left field.  From there on, the Gators piled on five more runs to end the inning with six runs on four hits with one error.

The Seawolves had their chances to put more runs on the board throughout the game.  Ryan Morales led of the fifth inning with a bunt single and advanced to third base with two outs, but Daniel Nimoy grounded out to end the inning.  Sonoma State finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Michael Cole single on the middle that scored Cameron Cook from second base.  The Seawolves left six runners on base.

Ocon (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up one hit and one unearned run through three innings of work.  Cole went 1-for-4 driving in the only Seawolf run.  Cook went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.

Kyle Masteller (2-2) received the win with four strong innings pitched, only allowing one hit and striking out four.  Kevin Dultz led the Gator attack with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.

The Seawolves will host Cal State East Bay on Saturday, beginning a four game conference series with Saturday's doubleheader being played at Sonoma State and Sunday's twinbill at Hayward.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
