Ashley Britton hammered a grand slam home run in a 13-2 victory over Northwest Nazarene and
Samantha Lipperd pitched a complete game, one hit shutout to help defeat Saint Martin's 10-0 to wrap up day one of the Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno on Friday. The Seawolves improved to 22-7 on the season and will return to action at 9:30 a.m. against Montana State Billings on Saturday at Pedretti Park in Turlock.

LeeAnn Stroud scored Sonoma State's first run of the game in the first on a fielder's choice by
Simone Brandalise, giving the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead.
However, Northwest Nazarene came right back in the bottom half of the first on a solo home run by Haley Havern to knot the score at 1-1.
Kayla Ledford gave the Seawolves a 3-1 lead in the third on a single up the middle that scored Stroud and
Janelle Arnold. The Crusaders' Hevern came up big again with a RBI single in the bottom of the third to close the gap to 3-2; however, it would be as close as Northwest Nazarene would get.
Britton scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, then Sonoma State broke out for five runs in the sixth on five hits and an error that gave the Seawolves a 9-2 advantage.
One inning later, Britton connected on a four-run shot to right center field to give Sonoma State the eventual 13-2 victory on Friday. Britton ended the game 3-for-5 with six RBI and three runs scored. Arnold and
Rochelle Vanyi also had three hits apiece, accounting for nine of SSU's 14 total hits in the ballgame. Stroud went 0-for-2, but crossed the plate four times.
Martinez (10-4) earned the victory, giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out six Crusaders.

Lipperd (12-2) allowed just one hit in five innings of work, keeping Saint Martin's off the scoreboard while Sonoma State's offense continued to explode. Britton singled home Arnold for the game's first run, then Vanyi smashed a three-run home run to left center, giving the Seawolves the early 4-0 lead.
The Seawolves added two more runs in the third on Vanyi's two RBI single up the middle to take a 6-0 lead. In the fourth, Arnold crossed the plate after a throwing error by the center fielder to go up 7-0.
Jesse Talaugon put the game away with a two RBI single on a blooper down the left field line that scored Vanyi and
Danielle Lowe. The 10th and final Seawolf run came on a RBI groundout by
Vanessa Currie that brought home
Nikki Jaime.
Vanyi had a game-high five RBI in the victory while going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Arnold also had two hits and two runs scored.
Sonoma State, ranked 14th in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, will play three games on Saturday, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. first pitch against Montana State Billings. The biggest game of the day will pit Sonoma State with No. 3 Hawai'i Pacific at 11:45 a.m. The Seawolves will wrap up pool play at 6:30 p.m. with Western Oregon. The five games in two days will determine which bracket the Seawolves will play in on Sunday -- the Gold, Silver or Bronze championship brackets.
